VUMC Data Coordinating Center (DCC)

Overview of Services

Dr. Paul Harris founded and directs the Data Coordinating Core (DCC), which is one of many revenue neutral service cores within the Data and Organization for Translational Science (DOTS) center. Dr. Stephany Duda supports Dr. Harris as the Research Director of the DCC. The purpose of the DCC is to provide specialized REDCap-related data planning, implementation, and management services to the Vanderbilt research community as well as outside investigators. The DCC specializes in customizations of REDCap, a secure, web-based application designed to support case report form and survey-based data capture for research studies. Investigators can access this intuitive interface for data entry, data validation, audit trails, export procedures, seamless downloads to statistical packages, and VDCC programmers can tailor REDCap functionality to meet the needs of the study or investigator workflow. REDCap is widely used in the Vanderbilt research enterprise and across a large consortium of institutional partners.

The DCC staff includes system and web programmers to augment the REDCap system, build custom reporting and dynamic data visualization tools, develop computer routines that interface with clinical systems, and build visually compelling, REDCap-powered research websites. DCC Analysts specialize in research data management, general forms design, data adjudication, and custom training and documentation associated with these services. Project managers work closely with investigators to assemble comprehensive data management plans and ensure timely project execution.
